Vw Passat 2001 key stopped working after a flat battery

Posted on: September 21st, 2013 by Martin Pink

We had an enquiry from a customer today who had been told the key needed reprogramming following a non start after a flat battery .

having had some high quotes the lady was relieved to hear that she didnt need to call anyone out or pay anything at all , we gave her the solution by email.

if this happens to you , then you do not need an auto locksmith , the key just needs a resynch , simply ;

1) insert the key into the ignition

2) switch ignition to position 2 so dash lights all light up

3) leave the ignition on for 35 minutes

4) after 35 mins switch ignition off and remove key

5) now test key , all should be working again .

some vehicles require the ignition to be left on for 1 hour , so if in doubt leave it on for 60 mins and this should clear the system.

The good news is , this isn’t an emergency in most cases , and you do not need a locksmith or garage to fix this , all that is required is a simple manual resynch of the remote key , there are 2 common resynch procedures used on Peugeot and citroen remotes , just follow one or both of these simple manual resynch procedures ;

procedure 1

1) insert key into the ignition

2) turn ignition on

3) press and hold down the lock button for 5 seconds

4) release lock button

5) turn off ignition and remove key

6) wait 30 seconds then test remote .

Procedure 2

1) insert key into the ignition

2) turn ignition on

3) press and hold down the lock button for 10 seconds

4) release lock button

5) turn off ignition and remove key

locks will cycle then test remote .

a few older models differ in procedure , if your remote has stopped working after a flat vehicle battery on your Peugeot or citroen vehicle then email us and we will be happy to email you back the correct procedure for your model .

Tip of the Day for Vauxhall drivers

If you have changed the battery in your remote key , and the remote has stopped working since the battery change , Then simply resynch the remote by , inserting the key into the ignition and turning the ignition on , pres the lock button 3 times on the remote , this should resynch your remote to the car .

NB: take car when seperating the key blade from the remote end with vauxhall remotes , as the all important small black transponder chip is housed in the blade end , be carefull this doesnt fall out ! we attend lots of jobs where customers lose this and can no longer start their car , so take care .
